Curved Oblong Dish: Part of a Dessert Service?
Made by WOOD & CALDWELL
A few years ago an item came up for auction described as an incomplete dessert service as follows. Pearlware botanical dessert service, each piece painted in polychrome with a flower spray, titled to the reverse, a brown line rim. Shallow soup plates, shell shaped dishes, square dishes and a circular supper set formed as four curved dishes and covers. Some impressed marks for "WOOD & CALDWELL".
The oblong dish below was presumably part of the same type of dessert service. The shaped interior of this dish is painted with specimens of plants named underneath in red "Anemone leaved Geranium" and "Branching Toad Flax". Impressed "WOOD & CALDWELL". Length 32cm.
