Catalogue of Tablewares made by Wood and Caldwell
The following is an initial list of known Wood & Caldwell tablewares, made between 1791 and 1818. Tableware
Jug. Blue on the outside but this small jug is very
unusual in that the glaze has a matt finish (jasper?) and not a shiny
finish. Impressed mark 'WOOD & CALDWELL'. Height
approx 7.5cm, weight approx 120gm.

outside. Ring of vine leaves and grapes around the outside of
the rim, white. Landscape around the middle showing cow and
calf, dog and pheasant, two further dogs, white. Impressed mark

Jug. Brown on the outside with white images of
children. Grape vine around the top. Impressed mark 'WOOD &
CALDWELL'. Height approx 11cm, weight approx 280gm.

children and a dog. Row of leaves around the top. Impressed
mark 'WOOD & CALDWELL'. Height approx 9cm, weight approx 200gm.

Cachepot. Seems to have been an outer pot for a
potplant. There are four seperate scenes around the side.
Impressed mark on bottom 'WOOD & CALDWELL'. Height 10.0cm,
diameter 12.0cm.

Large Bowl. Diameter 34.2cm and height 14.6cm. Impressed
mark 'WOOD & CALDWELL'. |

Bowl with God Save The King. 22cm diameter, 10cm height. |

Vase. Cream colour on the inside, blue on the
outside. Three scenes around the side; girl dancing, man
fighting with lion, cherub . Impressed mark on bottom
'WOOD & CALDWELL'. Height 12.0cm.

Curved oblong dish. Presumably part of a dessert
service. The shaped interior painted with specimens of plants
named underneath in red "Anemone leaved Geranium" and
"Branching Toad Flax". Impressed 'WOOD &
CALDWELL'". Length 32cm. |

Candle Stick. Blue and white. Impressed 'WOOD &
CALDWELL'. Height 17.8cm. |

Plate State House, Boston. This example is taken from
the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery website and is described
"c.1804-1818. Pearlware dark blue printed plate.
Diameter 24.5 cm. This pattern is based on a sketch by Dobbins,
'Boston Common in 1804'". Impressed mark 'WOOD & CALDWELL'. |
Mug. Pink lustre blue ground mug modelled with Britannia flanked by lions, a courting couple and Andromach weeping over the ashes of Hector. Height 7.5cm. Known from an auction record.
Toby jug of a sailor. Noted on page 188 of "English Earthenware Figures", by Pat Halfpenny, published 1991. A marked example can be found in the Victoria & Albert museum.
Sporting stag hunt jug. Pearlware. The neck with a continuous band of oak leaves, the body with two dismounted Huntsmen observing the kill, the lower body osier moulded, decorated in purple lustre, green, iron red, yellow and black enamels and with double scroll handle. Height 16.5cm. Known from an auction record.
Game tureen and cover. Caneware pastryware, of oval shape with undulating `plaited' rim, applied with a trail of fruiting branches in high relief, the flattened cover with oversized apple finial and further plum, cherry and grape sprigs. Impressed mark. Length 25.5cm. Known from an auction record.
